Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth, stands behind the Great Commission. However, He has not chosen to use that authority in a way that promotes an ostentatious triumphalism. Though we must proclaim the Gospel without compromise, we should do so with gentleness and respect (1 Pet 3:15). We are to resist the temptation to be crass, harsh or arrogant. Christ uses His authority to sustain us as we bear up under persecution and carry out our mission with humility.
