Jesus was the perfect child, sinless even in His early years. Therefore, when He remained behind in Jerusalem at age 12, He was not being neglectful or disobedient. This was a time for Jesus to declare appropriate familial boundaries and clarify priorities. Luke includes this incident in Christ's life for the purpose of establishing the Savior's identity.
