Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

Jun 21, 2026    Pastor Stan McGehee

Mark 3:20-35 deals with one of Scripture's most sobering warnings: the unpardonable sin.  The passage contrasts two wrong assessments of Jesus: His family's concern that He was out of His mind and the scribes' blasphemous claim that He was possessed by Satan. While all sins and blasphemies can be forgiven, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unpardonable because it is a conscious, deliberate, and defiant rejection of God's saving power. Blasphemy against the Spirit is not about accidental offenses or moments of doubt, but the defiant stance of those who see the light and insist on calling it darkness.
